Just a quickie to remind everyone (including myself) that I'm still about. Work, life and continuing computer troubles have kept me from doing much more than making the odd comment for a while, but I'll be trying to get some posts in and updating shortly.
Meanwhile, I've finally found time to paint something! Here's a couple of not brilliant pics of some Airfix Afrika Korps painted up in fieldgrey. With a bit of a squint they'll do fine for Ost battalion troops in Normandy, and add a bit of variety to my German Infantry.
The chap on the bottom left appears to suffer from the "Curse of Airfix German SMGs", and is carrying something highly improbable, in this case what looks like an MP41 (which was never issued to front line troops). I suppose I can squint at it and pretend its the German manufactured version of the Beretta, or maybe not.
Also, many thanks for all the kind words said in response to my last post about the British paras. To those of you who asked if I could do a step by step...
Now I just need a day that's not freezing cold and a howling gale to get the undercoated!
Those old Airfix figures are great. I love the poses, especially the "grenadier" is one of my favorites ;)
ReplyDeleteYep, still a great set. Mine suffers from really bad flash though, so I worry how much longer the moulds will last! I always liked the prone MG34 gunner covered in ammo belts as well, may have to paint him next.
DeleteThese look great what dip are you using?
ReplyDeleteGW's Devlan Mud mostly, with an extra black wash for any metallic parts. I'm not sure what the equivalent is in their new paint range yet, but will need to find out soon as my pot is starting to look a little low!
DeleteThey look very good. With some headswops to helmeted heads they would be very suitable as Ostbatallion or regular army infantry in 1944.
ReplyDeleteI like that suggestion! There are quite a few helmeted figures in the set I won't be using (one surrendering and another apparently trying to stab thin air with a bayonet!), I may well try this.
DeleteGreat paint job on those figures!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It helps that they have lots of detail to take a wash for shading.
DeleteFantastic work Alan! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, high praise given the quality of your output!
DeleteI find the most suitable job for those Airfix DAK is for some Fallschirmjaeger, but you have a wonderful job making them into "FeldGrau" Germans. Thanks for promising a tutorial, I definitely need help repainting my old British Airborne Platoon.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you back!
FF
That one hadn't occurred to me, I' be interested to see that done. Hope to make a start on the paras tomorrow night.
DeleteI like the look of those, might have to pick myself up a box of the old classics.
ReplyDeleteWell done EG :)
